Leadership Program

Our Leadership Program is the most exclusive program within Kicks For Kids and is by invitation only! This program is reserved for those students with a special, winning attitude that want the tools to succeed in all aspects of their life.

Students enroled in this prestigious program, learn about way more than just kicking and punching. They learn the skills necessary to become a self-thinking Leader within their peer group and beyond.

If you like the idea of having a teenager that would choose to come to Kicks For Kids after school lets out to mentor younger children, instead of choosing to be on MSN or hanging at the mall, then this is the program you want them in! We don't have to ask them to come do this. They ask us for the priviledge!

Leadership students still train in their regular classes, but they also attend special Leadership classes twice weekly and one Saturday or Sunday per month. We also bring in special 'guests' to talk to them about Leadership. These include Government officials, CEOs of companies, Team Canada members and Olympians, along with lots of other motivational speakers.

We are quite proud of our LEADERSHIP TEAM and it helps us maintain a “Tradition of Excellence”. Our goal remains to provide the very best training for our students. This is in part achieved by a motivated and talented LEADERSHIP TEAM that helps guide their peers.

As a LEADERSHIP TEAM member, students will be trained in the art of communication within their peer group. Along with other life-skills that will set them apart from their peers. Much more than the technical skill of their punch or side kick, their skill as a successful communicator will determine their success as a teacher and further, a leader in all aspects of life.

There are 6 levels to the Leadership program.

Throughout levels 1 and 2 they will assist their peers when asked and will go through training, including mock classes and team building skill training that will give them the tools required to become an assistant Instructor. They will also be taught how to treat others and how to set an example of exemplary behaviour for their peers to aspire to at all times.

Once students reach levels 3-4 they will be assistant Instructors. During this period they will start to teach more frequently and their Leadership Training will become more focused on developing their Leadership ability in all aspects of life, not just Tae Kwon Do. They will learn about goal setting and how to become a motivated self-starter, that will be able to step up and take charge in any situation they may encounter.

At levels 5-6 and Black Belt, students will then become full fledged Instructors in Olympic Tae Kwon Do. They will receive World Recognized, Black Belt Certification. They will learn how to divide their time between school, homework, family, friends, work and Martial Arts and learn how to balance these things and stay productive in all of them. They will take a Government Recognized Referee course for Ontario. They will become First Aid and CPR certified. They will take NCCP courses and receive Government recognized coaching and Instructor certifications. They will also become certified to work and teach here at Kicks For Kids, allowing them the opportunity of a great job after school. (All successful level 5-6 Junior Leadership Team Members are guaranteed a paid placement working at Kicks For Kids After School if desired.)

A classic example of this would be our own Mr. Anthony Mohabir.

He completed his second year of study toward a Sports Medicine Degree, and is now in his last year at Sheridan working toward a degree in Marketing. He has been with Kicks for Kids since he was 8 years old. He is a 4th Degree Black Belt and will become a Master before he finishes school.

He has competed Provincially, Nationally and Internationally. He has been a Provincial and National Champion. He has competed in Canada’s Carding events for the Olympics. He has been a Junior Leader, an Assistant Instructor, an Instructor and is now a Head Instructor at Kicks For Kids.

He is a certified Provincial Referee for Ontario. He is First Aid and CPR certified. He is able to balance his home life, homework, school, job, training and competitions while maintaining top grades. He has worked for Kicks For Kids for 6 years in both After School and in Summer Camp. In fact, we have been so impressed by this young man, that he has the opportunity to own his own Kicks For Kids upon graduating if he chooses to pursue this path.

At Kicks For Kids, we are proud to be creating confident Leaders, one child at a time!
