We have sparring programs available for all levels of interest. From recreational, to Provincial, National, and International Teams!!
Established in 2001 in Burlington, Ontario, Kicks For Kids has a distinguished reputation for producing high performance athletes.
Over the years Kicks For Kids has produced a large group of provincial, national and International champions up to and including 2 of our athletes / instructors carding for the Olympics.
With so many Taekwondo programs out there to choose from, Kicks For Kids has distinguished themselves by emphasizing high
quality instruction, from instructors that are actively competing both Nationaly and Internationaly themselves. We have
quickly become known as the place to be, for athletes wishing to take Taekwondo competition to the next level. Several of our
senior students have also continued on to become successful Coaches, Referees, and Instructors, who are passing on their knowledge and
dedication to the next generation of Taekwondo stylists in the area.
Sparring Programs:
1. Recreational Sparring Classes. One of the main functions of the class will be to
introduce the concepts of sparring safely with other children and adults. Students will learn basic
footwork and kicking drills while being introduced to full contact Olympic Sparring. Once students
understand the basics of sparring safely, they may be invited to join the intermediate sparring program.
2. Intermediate Sparring Classes. These classes are by invitation only. Students that
have shown a strong work ethic in recreational classes and have developed an understanding of the concepts
taught, may be invited to join the intermediate sparring classes. Here athletes start to take sparring more seriously.
They are invited to join the Kicks For Kids Team at local tournaments and become exposed to more advanced concepts
such as ring control, advanced footwork, high section contact, etc. At this level, intermediate students also
have the opportunity, once a week, to train with more seasoned athletes and are in a mixed class with our advanced,
Black Belt, Sparring program.
3. Advanced Sparring Program. This program is reserved for athletes that are willing to dedicate
themselves to an unrelenting pursuit of excellence in government recognized, Olympic Taekwondo competition. This elite
group puts in countless hours of training and full contact sparring weekly. They learn advanced ring management, advanced
kicks and combinations, timing drills, advanced fakes and on and on. They must take a provincial referee course to better
understand how the game is scored and why, from a referees' point of view. This also enables the athlete to better
understand how warnings, penalties and points etc. are awarded during a match. With hard work and dedication to the sport,
they can earn the opportunity to represent Kicks For Kids, Ontario and Canada in Taekwondo competitions provincialy,
Nationaly and Internationaly. This program has produced a large group of high calibre athletes including Provincial
and National Champions. The success of this program speaks for itself. At present from the 110 Ontario Taekwondo Association
clubs there are 85 athletes that are qualified for the OTA Junior Team for 2006. They will reperesent Ontario at the 2006
Junior Nationals in Saskatchewan. 15 Of these athletes are from Kicks For Kids. Our athletes make up a whopping 18 % of the
Ontario Team by themselves.
Our Sparring Programs are the only programs of their kind in the area and we are a member of the Ontario Taekwondo
Association which is officially recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Recreation. The Ontario Taekwondo Association
is the only government recognized, regulating body for Taekwondo in Ontario and we are proud to be a member. All of our black belts
in our programs also receive International Black Belt Certification through Kukkiwon. This is important to consider
when searching for a
local Taekwondo program for your child, as only Kukkiwon registered Black Belts can compete at the Provincial, National,
International and Olympic levels of government recognized Taekwondo in Canada. This is also the only acceptable certification
to qualify to compete in the Olympics !!
Along with these great programs, Kicks For Kids has the ability to offer some other great benefits to it's
sparring students that they couldn't get anywhere else. We are proud to be hosting the Ontario training session for the 2006
OTA junior team. This gives our non-competition students the opportunity to watch some of Canadas' greatest coaches
take these athletes through their paces. We have also given our competition athletes the opportunity to train at our
club with several active members of Team Canada, including Olympic bronze medalist, Dominique Bosshart and Team Canada
Coach Rommell Cabannatan. If you're looking for Taekwondo sparring programs in Burlington, this is the place to be !!
